France, Iii Republic. A First Madagascar Campaign Medal 1883 Auction Archive (Schutzmannschaft Ärmelabzeichen)(Mdaille commmorative de Madagascar). Instituted in 1886. In silver, cornucopia hallmarked and fasces hallmarked on the reverse, engraver marked "DANIEL DUPUIS" on the obverse, measuring 30 mm in diameter, dark patina, edge nicks, contact marks, original ribbon, better than very fine. Footnote: The First Madagascar Campaign Commemorative Medal was instituted on July 31, 1886 and awarded to participants in the First Madagascar expedition of 1883.
