The interior of the helmet still has an original very good M31 leather liner with all eight fingers present and still supple

so one can only assume is was intended to be fired as a shoulder weapon which is nearly impossible as it weighs 33 pounds

it was necessary to fill it with non-airborne-qualified personnel from other units in the Third Army area
